They never tell you how much it is going to hurt. All through the eternal sunshine of an isolated innocence of youth, children are perpetually kept insulated and unburdened by the inescapable knowledge of the finality of eventual expiration. They are sequestered as best that can be managed from the frightening exploitation of inevitable extinction, leaving them understandably unfettered and free to explore the freedom of experiencing formative years unstained by the specter of death. We just let them have their endless summer days, filled with gently dangerous misadventures and innocently unique discoveries.  We comfort and coddle and worry and entrench, hoping desperately to provide the security and foundation for the best possible outcomes, all the while knowing just how fragile and temporary this world is …
